June 2005 - The Farmiloe Building
Batman Begins, the story of how Bruce Wayne became the superhero he was destined to be, is
one of the most eagerly awaited films of the summer.
Memento director, Christopher Nolan, takes the helm on this dark tale which goes on
general release on 16 June. The Farmiloes Building - represented by leading location
agency, Amazing Space - featured as one of the fundamental London locations.
A young Bruce Wayne, having witnessed his rich parents' murder as a child, returns
to Gotham City after a long exile, desperate for revenge. The storyline has Wayne
(played by Christian Bale) befriending Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), the ambitious
inventor of Wayne Enterprises' military division. Using his designs, Wayne creates
Batman's weapons arsenal, which he then uses to take on the film's villains, The
Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy) and cult-leader Ra's al Ghul (Ken Watanabe).
Warner Bros were keen to shoot Batman Begins in the UK, home to the first two technically superior films in the billion dollar
series. The shoot took in a variety of London locations including The Excel building,
Docklands, City Point, Canary Wharf, Abbey Mills Pumping Station, The Garrick
Theatre, The Guinness Factory, Senate House and our Location of the Month - The
Farmiloe Building.
Amazing Space was exclusively appointed to market and manage The Farmiloe Building
for film and photographic location hire in October 2002. Since then over 50 productions
have used this property for feature films, TV, photography and events.
Batman Begins filmed predominantly in the wood panelled 1st floor offices in March and April
of last year. The crew prepped for 5 weeks to facilitate a 2 day shoot and turned
The Farmiloes Building into Gotham City Police Station, as well as a Shanghai
Warehouse.
