October 2007 - The Mayfair Hotel

Image of the bar at The Mayfair hotel which features in Secret Diary of a Call GirlSecret Diary of a Call Girl, ITV2's new drama starring Billie Piper, is the sexually explicit story of a beautiful prostitute who leads the ultimate double life. It is based on the confessional blog of a high-class hooker known only as Belle de Jour.

One of the many London locations used in the series was The Mayfair, a luxury five star hotel, in the heart of the capital. The hotel features as a meeting place for Belle and her clients.

Opened in 1927 by His Majesty King George V, this prestigious London hotel has recently undergone a £70 million refurbishment. The contemporary look of the hotel is lavish and dramatic and the new lobby has been furnished with creations from some of the world's top design houses - including sofas and chairs by Fendi and chandeliers by Baccarat. There are also paintings from St Petersburg.

Location manager, Gary Pickering, comments on the shoot:
"One of the special locations we used was the five-star Mayfair Hotel. We scheduled it on a Sunday, as this was their quietest time. They are a very friendly and hands on hotel, and offered us the services of various managers that helped us enormously.

Image of the lobby at The Mayfair Hotel from the drama The Secret Diary of a Call GirlWe used one of their outstanding rooms, the lobby (for one quick shot), the main bar and the lift/corridor. Filming in any hotel can be a very tense experience but I have to say the day went very well, this was one location that you cannot allow a film crew to do what they like."
