London's Screen Archives
London's Screen Archives is the regional network supporting organisations in London that hold collections of moving image material. It helps researchers and the public find these collections and works to ensure the preservation of important material made in or about our city.
London is home to some of the country's leading national and specialist moving image collections. However, no single archive is collecting pro-actively to reflect the history of London and its communities. Because of this and the fact that many non-specialist archives don't have the resources to preserve vulnerable film and video, much material of value is in danger of being be lost to posterity.
With the support of Film London, Museums, Libraries, Archives (MLA) London and a small steering group of partners (chaired by Dr Cathy Ross, Director of Collections and Learning), efforts are now being made toward addressing these issues and establishing this new network.

This new resource at Birkbeck, University of London, supports London's Screen Archives. It takes the form of an accessible reference library of viewing copies of moving image material made about and in London. The collection opened early in 2007 and is housed in Birkbeck's Centre for Film and Visual Media Research at 43 Gordon Square.
