Events Calendar : Darwin, Evolution and the Movies Film Festival 2009
Charles Darwin influenced fiction as well as fact and authors such as HG Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Charles Kingsley were all directly inspired by Darwin’s theory of evolution by the means of natural and sexual selection. The work of Wells, Kingsley and Burroughs paved the way for future generations of writers and filmmakers.
The 24 November 2009 marks the 150th anniversary of Darwin's 'On the Origin of Species'. In celebration of this the Darwin, Evolution and the Movies Festival 2009, curated by Carole Jahme, presents films and live comedy with evolutionary content. The Festival's film programme includes Alien, by Ridley Scott; Jurassic Park, by Steven Spielberg; Inherit the Wind, by Stanley Kramer; and 2001 A Space Odyssey, by Stanley Kubrick. A number of specially commissioned films will also be screened.
